Mount Ruska is named after the spirit of ice, Ruska the Sharp-Eyed, believed to have brought demise to the garden that was once Gardenia Coast. According to legend, Ruska was kicked out of the garden after touching one of the gardenias and killing it by accident with his frozen fingers. He was sentenced to spend the rest of his days atop this mountain, and was enraged to the point that he sent an avalanche down the mountainside so large that it flooded the garden. It is said that the snow remains today as the pure white sand in the dunes where the garden supposedly was. There are no packs currently residing here.
